Huge Simpsons fan! Former locomotive engineer, BNSF Railway, my fellow former train crew members (A derailment ended our careers, we've stuck together afterwards) are also big Simpsons fans.

It sounds very ambitious, but I like it. The fully connected map is not too far off from your GTA based part. So that's part of the job done. Like the GTA games, you could have an invisible barrier to seperate them. GTA always had an in game explanation for bridges being out, the Simpsons universe could be explained by Fat Tony's mob building the bridges out of pasta and saltines or something, and they are being replaced. This of course, is inspired by the wheelchair ramps Fat Tony built for Springfield Elementary, and being a reference to an episode, fit SHAR perfectly.
  • Trainman84 replied to Favorite car to drive in Hit and run?
In some levels, where Smithers is the driver in Burn's limo, I enjoy driving it simply for the double entendres that Smithers often says. Same with the police cars when Wiggum is in the drivers seat. He has some great lines too.

For normal driving, that is, seeking out wasp cameras or exploring, I often drive the Curator or the Electaurus, sometimes the Car Built for Homer, just for the novelty of it, unlesss, of course, I am in a level where either of the above characters appear as drivers, but for speed I like Lil Bandit, I've got the handling of that down real good.
  • Trainman84 replied to My rant.
I consider my work in restoring antique model trains to be an art form, and construction of a suitable railroad layout using tools and materials available in the 1940s to be an art form as well. Call it 'Mixed media on plywood'. When I was a bit younger I too got jealous of people who got far more attention than me, there are guys on Youtube with these awful click-bait titles like "Antique train from the 1980s can it run again" or something equally dumb, and the comment sections have viewers fawning over this junk, and the work done is, to put it blunt, sub-par.

I realized something though, some years back. Art is not a contest, whatever the media. Be it painting, sculpting, digital, or my trains, or whatever, it is not a competition. No prizes for most viewers or fans. My work is done for my satisfaction, and the restortaions I do for others, it is for their satisfaction and enjoyment, my enjoyment is secondary in that case. Heck, ever see the Latin phrase displayed at the beginning of MGM films when the lion roars? Ars Gratia Artis. Translates into art for art's sake. Good words to keep in mind. Yes we create so others may enjoy (And this applies just as much to anything created in mods here as it does any form of art) but in the end, we create because we want to. If you're happy with what you have created, if you enjoyed the time spent creating, then that is the most important thing.

Looking very good! Apu's red car shows up in at least one other episode, the one where he got married to Majula I think. Next time I play SHAR I am going to try this out.
  • Trainman84 replied to My Response to the October 1st Incident
Thanks for the info. I suppose I am a bit out of touch with society these days. I do have a couple trans friends, neither of them have ever seemed upset when someone calls them by their old name. In my case, I have a very hard time remembering names and faces in the first place, so they might be just giving me a pass there, since remebering a new name would take some time for me. Or maybe it just doesn't really bother them.

I keep hearing about this doxxing thing in the news, apparently there are people who will go out of their way to post someone's address, and even crazier people that will seek those people out and do nasty stuff to them. I thought deadnaming, by the sounds of it, might be related.

Either way, this is why I stay home in the evenings. Society is getting too crazy for my liking.

Deadnaming is when you refer to a trans person by the name they went by before transitioning.

It can be incredibly painful for a trans person to remember the part of their life when they couldn't outwardly express themselves as they felt on the inside, it can feel as if any progress you've made since that previous part of your life has been suddenly invalidated simply by hearing or reading the name. It can hurt to even know that people know your deadname, even if you know they'd never use it. Knowing people even have that mental connection when it comes to your deadname can be a horrible feeling.

It may not directly put the community at risk, but it's incredibly hurtful to many members of the community who either know firsthand how it feels to experience that, or to members who have trans friends or family members who've seen the toll it can take. Thank you for asking, and if you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

What exactly is deadnaming? I seem to be the only one here who doesn't know what that is, but it sounds serious. Is this something that puts the community at risk?
  • Trainman84 replied to City Bus
It does look a bit like the 'Seniorville Trolley' bus for the retirement home. Basically a bus body on a pickup truck chassis. As far as city transit buses in Springfield, older episodes show early 1990s looking high floor buses, though in the episode Changing of the Guardian, a GM "Fishbowl" bus is shown nearly hitting Dr. Hibbert. I was surprised they got the styling accurate, right down to the half-teardrop window behind the driver. Those would be 40' buses, and I think your shorter bus fits SHAR better to be honest.
  • Trainman84 replied to Bart's blue shirt on the cover art.
My only theory would be between Lisa's red dress, the red car, and a red shirt on Bart, they went with a blue shirt to give some contrast. I imagine a conversation going a bit like this "There's a lot of red in that artwork." "Well I can change the car color or I can change clothes colors" "Nah, red is a good sports car color. Didn't Bart wear a blue shirt for a while?" "OK, blue shirt it is"
  • Trainman84 replied to Springfield Noire 2: Reinvestigated [Discontinued]
After a hiatus for a few months or so due to a move and new job, I've finally gotten back into playing SHAR. I tried this mod today and I like it. It's very different in game play and concept from anything else I've seen on here. I also like the idea of an original character in the Simpsons universe. Instead of playing as a known Simpsons character, with its own backstory, life, moods, attitudes, an OC can be anything the player wants it to be.
