I think at this point we can rule out the game's audio settings then, as they're updating correctly.

Next on the agenda then is assuming Windows has released an update that has once again broken SHAR. Could you run winver and upload a screenshot, and additionally search View your Update History and send me a screenshot of that please.

Thanks,
Josh

Can you confirm, has SHAR ever worked with audio and it only recently stopped, or is this your first time trying to play the game?

Thanks,
Josh

This is my first time trying to play the game

The unfortunate news now is you're on W11 Insider, and I don't know of anyone else on that version to compare updates against. My best guess is a Windows update somehow breaking part of the audio (which sounds insane to even type, but we've ruled out the game).

To attempt to narrow it down, can you try the following please:

  1. Close the launcher if it's open
  2. Browse to your new game install directory in File Explorer
  3. Right click Simpsons.exe amd go to Properties
  4. Go to the Compatibility tab
  5. Check Run this program in compatibility mod for:
  6. Select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) from the list
  7. Press Apply then OK
  8. Relaunch the launcher and the game and see if audio is still broken

Thanks,
Josh

Where is the compatibility tab?

Ah, I meant to right click this file in your install folder:
Note: This is from your old screenshot from before you moved the install dir, so the path is wrong, but the file is right
Game install with Simpsons.exe highlighted

Thanks,
Josh

My mistake. I think I accidentally clicked outside of the executable. Anyway, I selected windows xp (service pack 3), relaunched the game from the launcher and it still doesn't work
I have to attend a meeting for a coding project I've been working on so I may not be very responsive for about thirty minutes. I really appreciate all the help you've given me this far

This is officially the weirdest bug I've ever encountered, so you can have that badge of honour if you'd like...

I would like to apologise for all the messing about with no results, but this is definitely an odd one.

I just realised I haven't confirmed yet, is this a desktop or a laptop?
For the next attempt I'd like to rule out any audio device issues, so could you also let me know if you're using:

  • Speakers
    • If on laptop, built in
    • If on desktop:
      • Plugged into 3.5mm audio out on the rear I/O of the motherboard
      • Monitor speakers via HDMI
      • Plugged into a USB or PCI audio interface
  • Headpones
    • Plugged into 3.5mm headphone port
    • Plugged in directly via USB
    • Bluetooth
    • Plugged into a USB or PCI audio interface

I'd also like to have a list of available audio devices, so could you please search for, and open, Sound Settings, then drop down the list under Choose your output device and upload a screenshot of the list.

Thanks,
Josh
