I haven't played Simpsons Hit & Run for years now and I decided to revisit it on my laptop. I found this and the mod launcher so I gave it a shot.

So I played it this morning, and I was having a blast revisiting this game, then after putting my laptop on sleep mode I came back trying to relaunch the game and now it doesn't launch and just shows this message:

Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) at Simpsons.exe+0x6E576 (0x46E576) reading 0x0

Hi,

That's a weird one, could you try verifying your game install:

  • Download Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Install Verifier and launch it.
  • If not already selected, Browse to your game's install location.
  • Make sure Mode is set to Verify Install.
  • Press Start in the bottom right.
  • The application will then go through and verify all your game's files.
  • Once complete, it'll prompt you to save a file, please upload that file to a filehost of your choice (such as Mediafire or MEGA), and post the link as a reply.

Thanks,
Josh

Hey Josh!

Thanks for responding and yeah I just followed your instructions: www.mediafire.com/file/377oovkpnngqvsl/LAPTOP-PBGMRQ3E_Mark_Villaflor_Simpsons_Hit_%2526_Run_Differences.lsp/file

To be completely honest I just torrented Simpsons Hit and Run so I don't know if that makes a difference? I just didn't how else to get it since my ps2 aint running no more.

Hi Marky,

Looking at the logs, there's nothing wrong with your install (though I would recommend leaving the game's install directory untouched, and moving your launcher to its own separate folder).

With that in mind, could you send me the file crash dump? You can find it by pressing Open... then Crashes in the launcher, and then upload it to a file sharing site again please.

Thanks,
Josh

Yup okay I'll move the launcher elsewhere - now for the file crash dump I'll attach the latest one:

I'm afraid with my situation that the files might be corrupted somehow. Just speculation.

@Marky

The install verifier should have checked that, but just to be certain could you re-run it and upload after removing the launcher files from the game dir?

Thanks,
Josh

So looking at the crash dump, it is erroring when trying to lookup a game string, however the text bible isn't loaded, so it's trying to read from NULL, and that's the crash you're getting.

From the stack trace, it looks like it's actually in the OnDriveError function, trying to look up INSERT_CD or MEDIA_ERROR (can't quite tell which). This somewhat explains it, if it's erroring on loading any file, well it can't load the text bible, and then trying to display that error crashes because no textbible.

If the game was working prior to sleep mode, have you tried a full restart since and checking if the game works then?

Thanks,
Josh

Hey Josh,

Here did a re-run of the verifier: www.mediafire.com/file/0gcn2f7d40wdjf6/LAPTOP-PBGMRQ3E+Mark+Villaflor+Simpsons+Hit+&+Run+Differences.lsp/file

@Marky

Ooh, I hadn't seen the image when I first replied - that actually perfectly explains my above message. You should move the game off of your OneDrive. Put it literally anywhere else and it should be fine.

What I think is happening is that OneDrive tries to be smart and keeps unused files off your PC, only downloading them when access, which breaks SHAR.

If you want to keep the game files where they are, you might be able to get it working if you right click and Always keep on this device. That should tell OneDrive to always keep the files on your laptop.

Thanks,
Josh
